Multiple award-winning Nigerian Afropop singer and songwriter, Yemi Alade has said she ceased being a fan of Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie when the artiste disrespected her and failed to feature on her song.
Speaking with Bola Ray on Starr Chat show, the ‘Johnny’ hitmaker who felt disrespected by the BET Award winner revealed how disappointed she was when Sarkodie refused to show up even when her management team and that of Sarkodie had agreed to meet in the USA, UK and South Africa.
“I’ve really tried my best to really not go into details but the long and short on why I don’t want to dwell on this is that is super unfair, unprofessional and unkind for international acts or even artistes to have a dealing with anybody and after agreeing to certain things, you don’t come through at all.. I can count three different countries and three different venues where my team and I had an agreement with the artiste (Sarkodie) in particular and he didn’t come through.
“I don’t want to bring in the feminine and masculine inequality we’re experiencing in the industry and I don’t want to link it to that. I was pained as a person but I’ll say it is almost impossible to promote a project that is supposed to be for two people when the other party isn’t coming through at all, the music pretty much suffers.”
When asked if she felt disrespected, Alade replied, “Definitely I did but the good part about it is that before the idea of having this collaboration, I already had a name for myself and I’ll continue to do that for as long as I can and as God leads me to. It was just a point in my career that I went over and I’m so fortunate. For instance I’m here in Ghana and working on a song with MzVee. It takes two to tango… I’m here to support her and she supports me too.”
According to her, though Sarkodie has not apologized, she is not waiting for any apology from the multiple award-winning rapper.
“He didn’t get back to apologise, but I’m cool and not bothered at all. I tried three times, is it enough. We sort of like found ourselves in same location in America, UK and in South Africa and anytime we always got thumbs up but the moment we step out of that box to get things done and probably link up at the agreed point, it never happened, It was gross unprofessionalism as far as I’m concern and I really don’t want to talk about it because I’m like it’s over and done.“
Asked if she is aware Sarkodie is Ghana’s biggest export and talent when it comes to music, the Nigerian female artiste said, “Yes but I don’t listen to his music, no more fan of him… I only work with artistes I’m a fan of. I’m just not a fan of him anymore.”

ON THE VIRG- Lionel Messi beat Van Dijk to Ballon d’Or by just SEVEN points as full results are revealed
LIONEL MESSI beat Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk to the Ballon d’Or by just seven points to win a record sixth gong.
The Portuguese was never in the running to take the top gong and instead it was Van Dijk who came agonisingly close to becoming the first Liverpool ace to win it since Michael Owen in 2001.
In the end it came down to just a couple of votes from the 176 international journalists who participated.
Each journalist has to pick their top three with a point system of five for their best, three for second and one for third.
Liverpool players dominated the top 10 with Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Alisson third, fourth and seventh respectively.
Kylian Mbappe had 89 points while Riyad Mahrez rounded off the top 10 with 33.
Messi’s total was less than last year’s winner Luka Modric who picked up 753 points.
Van Dijk, who many thought deserved the trophy after winning the Champions League, remained gracious after being pipped to the award.
He said: “You need to respect greatness. It was an amazing year — but there’s a couple of players who are a bit unnatural.
“I was close but there was someone a bit better.
“I never thought I’d be up for a Ballon d’Or until I was actually nominated.
“It shows a lot about how my career’s been. I came late but never gave up on my dreams.
“I had to work hard every step of the way so to be here makes me so proud.”
Messi has previously won the award in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.
The Barcelona star added: “Ten years ago I received my first Ballon d’Or, guided by my three brothers.
“And today I receive my sixth, guided by my wife and children.
“As my wife explained, you must never stop dreaming but always work to improve and continue to enjoy. I am very lucky, I am blessed.”
Ronaldo did not attend the glitzy do in Paris and instead showed up at the 2019 Gran Cala del Calcio do in Milan to pick up the Best Player in Serie A gong.
When asked if Ronaldo’s absence meant he had one fewer rival to beat to claim the crown, Van Dijk joked: “Was he a rival then?”
She wrote: “I think there are people living completely frustrated and unrealistic!
“It is well known that Ronaldo will not win tonight’s prize. Although he has won important collective titles… but this is another conversation.
“Now, dear Virgil, where you are going, Cristiano Ronaldo has gone and come a thousand times.
“You see, my dear Virgil, that Cristiano Ronaldo was a tri-champion in the country where you have been playing for years and you still haven’t got your hand on the trophy.
“Now, Virgil, win titles from those who really count and then we’ll talk.
“When you have a handful of them, the really important ones, you might be able to sit at the table with Cristiano.”
